CitySpace, is a community-driven center for the arts centrally located in downtown Easthampton in the historic Old Town Hall. It is a place for creative possibility and meaningful connections across communities in western Massachusetts.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, CitySpace, restores, preserves, and manages Old Town Hall as a center for the arts for the City of Easthampton and Western Massachusetts. CitySpace seeks a part-time (25 hours) Arts Programming and Venue Manager. This individual will ensure that all events run smoothly from concerts and private rentals to connecting with a wide range of communities. This position will be responsible for house, programming, and volunteer management in CitySpace’s Blue Room – a flexible performance and event venue with a capacity of 100 seats, or 230-standing attendees.

The right candidate will be as organized as they are personable, and committed to providing our audiences with as safe and enjoyable an experience as possible. They will help build community with programming and the contributions of volunteers and, ultimately, ensure that CitySpace audiences want to return again and again to a place that feels fun, inspiring, and welcoming to all. Reporting to the President of the Board, this position is ultimately an ambassador for our multidisciplinary nonprofit arts organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

Blue Room Events Management

  • Coordinate and book rentals, and manage partnering and programming events
  • Establish partner events
  • Set the space for each event
  • Coordinate day-of-show/event needs
  • Maintain an inviting and professional atmosphere in performance space and lobby
  • Schedule, train, and manage event staff ensuring a common understanding of event expectations
  • Coordinate audience check-in
  • Bar management for limited shows per year
  • Settle final payments with performers as needed
  • Fulfillment of hospitality riders as needed
  • Assist in marketing venue related events

CitySpace Program Management

  • Coordinate program calls, applications, and review process
  • Manage CitySpace artistic programs such as Pay It Forward and Pop-Up Markets
  • Acclimate program artists to venue through tours and trainings
  • Provide ongoing support and communication to artists and their events
  • Manage contracts
  • Locate venue/event resources for program participants
  • Assist in marketing program related events

Volunteer Management

  • Recruit applicants for volunteer roles for Old Town Hall and CitySpace events
  • Schedule, train, and manage event volunteers ensuring a common understanding of event expectations
  • Develop and maintain a range of volunteer opportunities within the organization, such as event check-in
  • Identify ways that volunteers can strengthen programs, develop audience base, and involve our community of supporters in meaningful ways

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Relevant experience with performance and/or event venues and programming
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence necessary to manage crowds
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in the Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, etc.), Canva, E-newsletter and social media platforms
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs
  • Passion for the role that the arts play in our communities
  • Maintain a commitment to values of equity and inclusion and experience communicating effectively with groups of individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experiences
  • Flexible and positive attitude
  • Self-starter and team player
  • Reliable work ethic, understanding that all staff members are asked to assist with special projects as needed

Preferred experience includes:

  • Theatrical production, stage management, and/or event experience
  • Experience with ticketing and a variety of payment platforms

Requirements:

  • CitySpace will provide crowd management, CPR, and TIPS training.
  • Flexible, work-from-home hours outside of rehearsals, concerts, events and in-person meetings; in-person at live events at Old Town Hall as needed.
